Fire Suppression The LaSalle Fire Department uses the latest techniques and equipment for fire suppression. The Fire Department responds to a wide range of emergencies - from full alarm industrial, commercial, or residential fire, to single pump response for a car or grass fire. Medical Response The LaSalle Fire Department currently responds to all tiered response medical emergencies within LaSalle city limits along with the Windsor Essex Ambulance Service. The LaSalle Fire Department has initiated an Advanced Cardiac Life Support service, with the introduction of semi-automatic defibrillators. Now, along with Standard First Aid and CPR, all firefighters can deliver the necessary shock to restart a person's heart. There is currently a defibrillator on the rescue truck and the main fire engine, and all defibrillators were purchased with the efforts of dedicated local service clubs and private citizens donations. Auto Extrication All full-time firefighters along with the volunteers from the Town are trained in the use of auto extrication equipment and techniques. They are able to respond to any motor vehicle accident within the Municipality. Ice and Water Rescue Presently the career firefighters currently respond to all ice and water rescues along the Detroit River, or any other waterway within the Town of LaSalle. The LaSalle Fire Department has at its disposal a 16' flat bottom boat for ice rescue and shoreline searches and a 26' search and rescue vessel. Both are equipped with fire pumps and hoses. The large vessel is also a Coast Guard Auxiliary Vessel and responds to any emergency on the water when required by the Coast Guard. All members of the Marine Crew have been trained to Canadian Coast Guard standards and the operators or coxswains are trained by the O.P.P. in marine operations. In Service Inspection Program The fire prevention staff conduct inspections of all commercial properties within the Town of LaSalle. These inspections ensure that all properties comply with the Ontario Fire Code. The LaSalle Fire Department also conducts residential inspections upon request. These requests can be made contacting the LaSalle Fire Department. Other The LaSalle Fire Department responds to calls involving hazardous material incidents, activated carbon monoxide detectors, fire alarms, and to all calls for assistance that may be dispatched to the alarm room. The LaSalle Fire Department also conducts station tours for all schools, or community group, that is interested in studying fire safety. On occasion, fire trucks can be seen at blood donor clinics, or other community events where firefighters offer their assistance
